We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors to Hazelhurst. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us on 01424 883411 (overseas callers: +44 1424 883411) and we will endeavour to help.
· Battle (7m/11km, 15 minutes by car) is the nearest railway station
connecting to London.
· Rye (6m/10km, 12 minutes by car) railway station connects with Ashford
(overseas visitors).
· The breakfast menu can be provided in large print at your request.
· You can contact us by phone (number above)
· You can access our Website www.hazelhurstbroadoak.co.uk
· You can text us on +44 (0) 7919 351124.
· On arrival at Hazelhurst you will find off-road parking, outside
the 5-bar gate, for at least four cars. The parking spaces are marked. The
surface is compacted road chippings, leading to a tarmacced main entrance.
· Inside the 5-bar gate is further parking for three cars, including
a dedicated place for visitors to Josie’s Cabin. Access to Josie’s
Cabin is by a wide ramp. No steps are involved.
· We can assist guests with luggage.
· We are
400m from the crossroads with the A28, where you will find a General Store/Post
Office, and a Baker’s Shop.
· The Rainbow Trout Public House/Restaurant is just 300m (5 minutes
walk) from us and offers a good selection. There are several other good reastaurants
within a short driving distance. Please ask us for the current favourites.
· There are local taxi services at Northiam, Rye and Battle and we
will be pleased to make a booking for you.
· The
front door is 75cm wide and has a 18cm high step, plus a 15cm high threshold.
Assistance will happily be provided in order for guests to Josie’s Cabin
to gain access to the main house for breakfast.
· All guests are given a front door key along with their room key.
During the day and early evening, the front door is left unlocked. We have
a simple rule for later in the evening: If you find the door locked when you
go out, or arrive back, please relock it. Otherwise leave it unlocked. To
lock the door from the outside, lift the handle and turn the key. To lock
from the inside, lift the handle and turn the turnbuckle, since there is no
key on the inside.
· On entry to our home you will find a reception area 4m x 5m approx.
· The reception area has chairs and a computer station for use by guests.
We have wireless broadband access to the Internet, so wireless-equipped laptops
may be used throughout much of the premises.
· The reception area leads to the breakfast room and the flooring is
tiled. There are no steps.
· There
are no ground floor bedrooms.
· Access to the first floor is via a single straight flight of wide
stairs, treads 97cm wide, 23cm deep, 19cm high.
· The first floor landing has good colour contrast and is well lit.
· The stairs and the first floor landing floor are wood/laminate.
· All bedrooms are ensuite but no public WC available
· Breakfast
is served in the breakfast room on the ground floor. There are no steps
· The furniture can be moved on request.
· The sizes of the tables vary; the underspaces range between 60cm
and 70cm.
· There are chairs with arms and without which can be moved to accommodate.
· Please ask for a large text menu if you need one.
· We usually have a radio playing quietly at breakfast time –
most guests say that they like this as it tends to avoid conversations being
overheard. However if you find the radio annoying we are sure that there would
be no objection to it being switched off!
We can provide a basic (wash+dry only) laundry service on request. There is a charge for this service. Please ask.
· Our
Hot Tub is accessible through the patio doors of the breakfast room and involves
a threshold of 8cm at the patio door. Please see our website for more details.
Because of the very nature of a hot tub, entrance to it involves negotiating
a steep step and then climbing in. We are happy to assist anyone who would
like to use the very relaxing facility. The Hot Tub is very good for a good
night’s sleep!
· Please allow half and hour’s notice when requesting to use
the Hot Tub. The Hot Tub is not available after 9pm.
· Safety is paramount at Hazelhurst. The Hot Tub is located on decking
by the edge of the fishpond in the water garden. Guests with impaired sight,
or who are in a wheelchair and have been helped to the decking must be supervised
at all times, as must be children. This rule applies for all areas. There
is a lot of water at Hazelhurst.
· Our Swimming Pool is accessible either through the Acer garden or
via the Water Garden. Access through the Acer garden involves one step of
10cm height and then a short but steep ramp (21cm deep, 12cm high). Access
via the Water Garden is over two bridges that restrict access to 60cm wide,
with two sharp turns. The bridges have strong support rails 88cm high, ideal
for watching the fish.
· Once in the pool area, the entire surface is paved, with the exception
of a 22cm wide strip of 4cm pebbles.
· At the shallow end, the pool can be accessed by steps 30cm deep,
20cm high.
· The poll is approx. 1m deep for the first half of its length. It
then shelves steeply to 2m.
· The same concerns about safety apply here. No-one may swim alone
– children must be accompanied by a swimmer at all times, even if that
person is not swimming. No exceptions, please.
· With
the exception of the Goldie Hawn twin room (72cm), all the bedrooms in the
house have larger doorways than the front door.
· Clark Gable has one King-size double bed, 135cm wide, 49cm high.
The space at the right side of the bed is 50cm wide. On the left of the bed,
next to the ensuite compartment the space varies from 60cm to 130cm. The space
at the foot of the bed, reaching from the door to the window, varies between
110cm and 160cm wide, and is 5m long.
· Gene Kelly has one double bed, 150cm wide, 55cm high. Due to the
bay window, on one side of the bed, and the ensuite compartment on the other,
the width of the bedside space varies between 60cm to one metre plus. The
main area of the room, including the sofa, is 2m by 3.5 metres.
· Goldie Hawn has two single divans 80cm wide, 55cm high. This is the
smallest room in the house. One single bed is against the wall, under the
window and the gap between the beds is 40cm. On the door side, the space is
80cm wide and there
· Marilyn Monroe (family suite) has two single divans, 90cm wide, 60cm
high, plus (in the annexe) two full-size bunks. The beds are close together
but can be moved if desired. On the entrance side of the room, there is a
90cm space, and on the other side a 60cm space, plus a full length window
seat area. The main floor area, including an armchair, is 3.5m x 1.4m
· Salma Hayek has two single divans, 90cm wide, 60cm high. The beds
are normally located next to each other, leaving 60cm on one side and 90cm
on the other. The main floor area is 4m long and varies between 0.75 and 1.8m
wide, owing to the ensuite compartment.
· Any bed can be raised on blocks on request.
· All the ensuite compartments contain a toilet wash-basin and shower,
with the shower door (excepting Marilyn and Clark) in line with the door.
There is a sill of approx. 16cm on all the showers.
· Josie’s
Cabin is accessed by a decking ramp that has a minimum width of at least one
metre. The 70cm wide doorway leaves into a vestibule 1.5m square and from
there into the bedroom. The ensuite door is also 70cm wide.
· There is one double bed spaced 45cm from one wall, with ample space
on the other side, one single bed, placed against the front wall of the cabin,
and two twin full size bunks in an alcove. With the armchair moved to by the
double bed and wardrobe, there is a rectangular area of at least 1.7m x 2.7m.
· Either
double or single beds can be raised on request.
· All rooms have television with remote control, Teletext, and FreeView.
· Furniture can be moved as required, if practical to do so.
· All rooms have ensuite shower+toilet.
· All rooms have laminate flooring with rugs.
· All rooms have a good contrast in décor and are well lit.
· All basins have a clear underspace.
· We supply a small drinks fridge in the bedrooms which can be used
for medication/food and we can put larger items in our main fridge on request
(not available 24hours).
· The
gardens divide into four main areas – The main water garden, the pool
area, the acer garden and the patio by Josie’s cabin.
· The main water garden is pea-beach (smooth gravel), with a pathed
pathway. The paving is intermittent, ie there is pea-beach between the slabs.
Making your way round the garden requires the negotiation of the pea-beach
and varying levels of pathway, however the gardens can be fully enjoyed from
the decked area outside the breakfast room (see above)
· The pool area is principally on one level, as described above. Additionally,
there is a raised decking area, which is very good for enjoying the evening
sun. This is accessed by 8 steps on a 20cm by 20cm pitch.
· The acer garden is a narrow access way from one side of the house
to the other, at the back, and connects from Josie’s Cabin (and the
patio area) to the pool area.
· The patio by Josie’s Cabin is directly accessible from the
decking pathway that leads to the cabin. The access is 1.2m wide and has a
6cm ledge down to the patio
· There is a garden table+chairs immediately outside Josie’s
Cabin where the decking widens to provide a small verandah.
· Assistance
dogs are welcomed
· Mobile phone reception is generally good, better in some places than
others, depending on the network being used.
· Hazelhurst has a zoned Fire Alarm System, plus an UltraSafe Sprinkler
System. Door hangers are provided, should you require assistance in the event
of an evacuation.
· We are happy to take delivery of hired equipment.
